Introduction
Welcome to Markdown Reader. These Terms of Service (the "Terms") apply to the Markdown Reader website, browser extension, account system, Pro subscription, customer support, and related features (collectively, the "Service"). Please read these Terms carefully before accessing or using the Service.
By installing, accessing, or continuing to use the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the Service.
1. Service Scope and Eligibility
- Markdown Reader is a browser extension for opening, rendering, and reading Markdown documents, with preview, outline, syntax highlighting, diagrams, math formulas, themes, and related enhancements.
- The Service includes free features and may include paid Markdown Reader Pro features. Specific features, prices, and availability are shown on the product page, inside the extension, or on the checkout page.
- You must be eligible to use the Service under the laws of your jurisdiction. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to accept these Terms for that organization.
- The Service is not directed to children below the legal age. Minors may use the Service only with guardian consent and under guardian responsibility.
2. License and Restrictions
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, Markdown Reader grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Service for personal or internal business purposes.
Without prior written permission from Markdown Reader, you may not:
- Copy, sell, rent, sublicense, resell, or provide the Service to third parties as an outsourced service;
- Bypass subscription, licensing, access control, billing, risk control, or security mechanisms;
- Reverse engineer, decompile, maliciously scrape, automate abuse of, or otherwise impair the stability of the Service, except where expressly permitted by applicable law;
- Remove, hide, or modify copyright, trademark, attribution, or legal notices in the Service.
3. Accounts and Security
- Some features, especially Pro subscription management and entitlement checks, require a registered and signed-in Markdown Reader account.
- You must provide true, accurate, and current account information, and you are responsible for securing your email, password, signed-in devices, and authentication tokens.
- Accounts are intended for your own use and may not be transferred, resold, rented, or shared, unless an organization license or enterprise plan states otherwise.
- If you discover unauthorized access or a security risk involving your account, please contact us promptly. Losses caused by your failure to protect account information are your responsibility.
4. User Content and Local Files
- You retain your rights to your Markdown files, images, links, and other content. Markdown Reader does not obtain ownership of that content because you use the Service.
- The Service primarily processes Markdown files locally in your browser and on your device. You are responsible for the legality, accuracy, backup, and preservation of your content.
- If your Markdown documents reference remote images, scripts, styles, fonts, or other third-party resources, you are responsible for evaluating and accepting the related requests and risks.
- You may not use the Service to process, distribute, or display content that violates laws, infringes third-party rights, contains malicious code, or is clearly harmful.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to misuse the Service in any way, including but not limited to:
- Violating applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements, or third-party rights;
- Attacking, scanning, stress testing, interfering with, or disrupting Markdown Reader, payment providers, browser stores, or other third-party services;
- Bulk-registering accounts, sharing accounts, abusing trials or refund policies, impersonating others, or providing false payment or support information;
- Uploading, embedding, or directing others to malicious links, phishing pages, malicious scripts, or other unsafe resources;
- Using automation to bypass reasonable access limits, or consuming service resources in a manner clearly beyond normal personal use.
6. Pro Subscription, Payment, and Refunds
6.1 Pro Subscription
- Markdown Reader Pro is a paid subscription that unlocks advanced features. The feature list, price, currency, taxes, and subscription period are shown on the Pricing Page , inside the extension, or on the checkout page.
- Pro benefits are tied to your Markdown Reader account. You need to remain signed in for the Service to recognize your subscription on supported browsers and devices.
- We may adjust Pro features, free feature boundaries, prices, or subscription plans as the product evolves. Core benefits during an already paid period will be handled according to the purchase description or applicable law.
6.2 Payment, Renewal, and Cancellation
- Payments are processed by Paddle or the payment provider shown on the checkout page. Available payment methods, taxes, invoices, and billing details are provided by the payment provider under its terms.
- Subscriptions usually renew automatically unless you cancel before the current billing period ends. Failure to cancel in time may result in a charge for the next period.
- You can cancel through the account details page in the extension, the subscription record menu, the management portal provided by the payment provider, or by contacting the support email.
- After cancellation, Pro benefits usually remain available until the end of the current paid period, and the account then downgrades to Free. Unless the payment provider or applicable law states otherwise, canceling does not automatically refund a subscription period that has already started.
6.3 Refund Policy
To reduce accidental purchases and prevent abuse, refund requests are subject to the following rules, unless mandatory applicable law or payment provider rules require otherwise:
- Monthly Pro subscribers may request refund review within 48 hours after the first purchase.
- Annual Pro subscribers may request refund review within 48 hours after the first purchase.
- Refunds are generally not granted in the following cases: continued or extensive use of Pro features; refund requests after an automatic renewal charge; requests based on forgetting to cancel, accidental purchase, account sharing, unsupported environments, or preference changes; abnormal or malicious refund history; accounts suspended or restricted for violating these Terms; or requests made after the time limits above.
- Refund process: You can submit a request from the account details page in the Markdown Reader extension through the subscription record cancellation menu, or email mkdreader@gmail.com with proof of payment, account email, and refund reason.
- If a refund is approved, the related Pro benefits may terminate immediately and the account will downgrade to Free. Actual arrival time depends on the payment provider, bank, and payment method.
- Some payment methods, regions, or transaction types may not support refunds. Before purchasing, please read Paddle's or the relevant payment provider's buyer terms and confirm whether your payment method is eligible for refunds.
7. Third-Party Services and External Resources
- The Service may be compatible with or integrate third-party libraries, plugins, browser APIs, extension stores, payment providers, analytics services, and support platforms. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
- Markdown Reader does not control third-party websites, remote resources, images, scripts, or links referenced by your documents, and is not responsible for their content, availability, security, or compliance.
- Browsers or extension stores may set independent rules for extension installation, updates, permissions, review, and removal. Those changes may affect Service availability.
8. Privacy and Data Security
- Markdown Reader's data practices are described in the Privacy Policy .
- The Service does not actively collect, store, or transmit your local Markdown file content, but remote resources you choose to access, account sign-in, payment, analytics, and support requests may involve necessary data processing.
- You should back up important files yourself. Markdown Reader is not responsible for data loss caused by device failure, browser cleanup, permission changes, user actions, or third-party services, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
9. Service Updates and Availability
- We may release updates, fix issues, adjust the interface, modify features, suspend parts of the Service, or stop maintaining old versions at any time.
- The Service may be interrupted, delayed, restricted, or unavailable due to browser policies, extension store review, operating systems, network conditions, third-party services, payment services, or force majeure events.
- We will use reasonable efforts to maintain service stability, but we do not guarantee that the Service will always be error-free, uninterrupted, completely secure, or meet all of your specific needs.
10. Intellectual Property and Feedback
- The Markdown Reader software, website, interface, brand, marks, documentation, designs, and related content are protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the license expressly granted in these Terms, you do not receive any ownership or other rights.
- If you submit suggestions, feedback, bug reports, or feature ideas to us, you agree that we may use them to improve, develop, and promote the Service without payment or additional obligation to you.
- Markdown, browser names, third-party library names, and other product names may belong to their respective owners.
11. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
- The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, Markdown Reader makes no express or implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, continuous availability, or non-infringement.
- Markdown Reader is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential losses arising from use of or inability to use the Service, including lost profits, business interruption, data loss, file damage, or substitute service costs.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, Markdown Reader's aggregate liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you actually paid for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. If you paid nothing, liability will not exceed USD 100 or the lowest amount permitted by applicable law.
12. Suspension and Termination
- You may stop using the Service, uninstall the extension, or cancel your subscription at any time.
- If you violate these Terms, misuse the Service, infringe third-party rights, create security risks, or create risks involving fraud, chargebacks, or malicious refunds, we may suspend or terminate your account, Pro benefits, or access to the Service.
- After termination, you remain responsible for payment obligations incurred before termination. Provisions that by their nature should survive, including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, dispute handling, and data retention provisions, will continue to apply.
13. Changes to These Terms
- We may update these Terms to reflect product, legal, payment, browser policy, or business changes. Updated Terms will be posted on this page with the latest update date.
- Material changes may be communicated through the website, extension, email, or other reasonable means. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
- If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service and cancel your subscription if needed.
14. Applicable Law and Dispute Handling
These Terms will be interpreted and enforced according to applicable law. If a dispute occurs, both parties should first try to resolve it through friendly communication. If that fails, either party may seek available remedies under applicable law. Consumers in some regions may have non-waivable statutory rights, and these Terms do not limit those rights.
